Most students arrive at university wanting to solve problems. These three learned to resist that instinct.

Emily Lynch and Liam MacDougall from St. Thomas University and Aditya Raval from UNB each participated in Map the System, a global competition from Oxford’s Skoll Centre that challenges students to understand problems deeply before reaching for answers. Two of the three will represent their universities at the global finals in Oxford this summer. In this closing conversation, moderated by James Stauch, they reflect on what that shift actually demands: intellectually, personally, and practically.
